Basics in Exercise Physiology

Aims and scope

This lecture series addresses the physiological foundations of human physical performance and its regulation under exercise stress, integrating current evidence from exercise physiology, bioenergetics, exercise biochemistry, exercise immunology, and sports medicine. It follows one thread across the sessions, from the immediate homeostatic response after a single bout of exercise to the hormetic adaptations of repeated training, along with the energetic, metabolic and immunological mechanisms that connect them. The overarching aim is to provide students and practitioners with a scientifically grounded, practically applicable understanding of how performance capacity is determined, diagnosed and prescribed, and of the preventive and health-promoting dimensions of physical activity across the lifespan, in school sports as well as in clinical populations.
